City:  DeLand
State/Prov.:  Florida
Occupation:  Associate Dean, School of
Music; flutist/teacher
Website:  www.stetson.edu/music
Marital Status:  Married
No. of Children:  2
Grandchildren:  I have 2 grandsons who will be 7 and 20 mo. at the time of the reunion.
What have you been doing for 40 years?:
I went straight through college (at James Madison in VA) and grad school (MA, DMA, The Ohio State University--Go, Buckeyes!) and had my dream job of teaching flute and music history at Cal State Sacramento. I moved to Louisiana when I married in 1978 and played flute in the Baton Rouge Symphony for 3 years. By the time our family moved to DeLand, FL, we had our daughter Mary, and a year later our son Andrew was born (in '84). Though I still miss the Midwest, DeLand has become our home, and my kids and grandchildren live here, as does my Mom (we lost my Dad in March of this year; perhaps you knew Dr. Ohlsson at SFA). I still work closely with my first husband but am happily remarried (going on 13 years) to George West, who I first knew in Nacogdoches when he taught jazz and low brass at SFA! I am now beginning my 23rd year on the music faculty at Stetson University, a small private university with a fabulous School of Music; after 3 years as Assoc. Dean of the School of Music, I am excited to have been named Interim Dean for the coming year.
From Jean:
My junior and senior years at NHS bring me happy memories, though it seems so long ago, especially since we moved to VA as I entered college. I was so glad to get the email from Vicky! I am positive that the reunion will be a huge success...I remember all the festive parties the spring we graduated!

What have you been doing for 40 years?:
The last forty years have been spent living my dream of being a high school teacher and making memories with my family. I am married to Howard Williamson, and we celebrated 38 years together in May. After Howard completed two years in the Marines, we moved from North Carolina back to Nacogdoches to complete our degrees. While in school, Howard began working for the U S Forest Service Research Unit on campus, and we bought a home and remained in Nacogdoches. I graduated in 1972 with a degree in General Business and Accounting and a second major in English and began my teaching career in Diboll teaching typing (later the typewriters were thrown out and computers took their place), general business, and accounting. I also have a Masters in Elementary Education but have never taught at the elementary level. I spent 36 years in a high school classroom and loved every minute of it. I taught high school business for 29 years in Diboll, and the last 7 years of my career were in high school special education in Wells. Teaching was truly a rewarding experience, and the memories I have can never be erased. However in February, after the birth of my grandson, Luke, I decided it was time to retire and become a full-time grandmother. It is so very different from what I have been used to, but each time he smiles or I experience one of his "firsts" I am reminded that this is what life really is all about. My sons Greg (70) and Brad (75) are graduates of N.H.S. and SFA. Greg is a Captain in the Army. I am very proud of him because he graduated with honors from boot camp and OCS at the age of 33 1/2 and is living his dream of career Army. It isn't a career I would have chosen for him, but I admire him and know he is happy. In April, Howard and I went to Hawaii and were honored to pin on his Captain's bars. Brad is self employed and enjoys umpiring baseball at the high school, college, and independent professional level. Unlike other people, I go to baseball games to watch the umpire and see if he makes any "bad calls." When other people complain about the ump, I just smile and say, "That's my boy. My grandchildren -- Kayla, Josh, Lauren, Hannah, Clayton, and Luke are the delight my life. I love it when they visit, and the house is filled with their laughter and all of them talking at one time. Howard and I recently enjoyed our third trip to Disneyland with the boys and their families. The grandkids giggles, laughter, and even the girls' high pitched squeals were music to my ears. I did surprise all of them when I rode the Tower of Terror not once but three times and got off laughing each time. Life hasn't been without its trials, difficulties, and times of tears, but I have grown from those times and have found God has blessed me even when I thought nothing good could come from a bad situation. Life has been very good to me!

What have you been doing for 40 years?:
Cassie Henderson (class of '66) and I married in 1970. We moved to Arizona for graduate school and stayed to work in the Phoenix area, where both our daughters were born, for 9 more years. In 1984 we moved to Sidney, Ohio and remained there for 19 years, I working as a chemist, engineer, and manager. During that time Cassie went back to school and earned an MLS degree. In 2004 we moved to the Dallas area where Cassie is Youth Services Librarian at the Rowlett Public Library, and I am a project and analytical chemist at a company in Addison. Our older daughter, Lindsey, lives in Austin and works at the University of Texas. Our younger daughter, Morgen, lives with us and works at a real estate holding and development company in Dallas. It's a lot hotter in Texas than I remember from 40 years ago. Thanks to this reunion and its sainted organizers I have realized my dream of being one of the wrong answers to a high school trivia question. Anything more that comes my way will be a bonus.
