City: Nacogdoches
State/Prov.: TX Occupation: retired Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 3 Grandchildren: Drake, 20 months; Chloe, 19 months What have you been doing for 40 years?: Short Version: got married, graduated from college, taught 28 years, yada yada yada, retired and moved back to Nacogdoches. Long Version: on my wife's insistence. We moved to Dallas in 1975 where I taught for the next 27 years in the Highland Park ISD (where I also taught with Homer's wife, Judy). For many years I was chairman of the Social Studies department at Highland Park H.S., and the district's secondary coordinator for Social Studies, while teaching AP U.S. and A.P. European history. LaWanna taught in elementary school in both Garland and in Highland Park. She and I spent 13 years traveling to Europe in the summer, taking my students on three-week trips to Europe; we also found time to lead some adult groups to Europe as well. In the midst of teaching, my first book on the Civil War was published fifteen years ago. I have since co-authored two other Civil War books and I've edited a two-volume collection of primary source documents now used in colleges and in Advanced Placement high school U.S. History courses. L.S.U. Press will be publishing my biography of Confederate general Henry McCulloch. In the meantime I am writing the history of the First Texas Regiment, part of Hood's Texas Brigade, and I am the editor of a World War II Oral History project begun in Highland Park. I retired from teaching in 2002 and LaWanna and I moved back here where I now manage my late father's estate. We spend most of our time traveling to visit our grandchildren, and on trips to historical sites with friends. We live in the home my great-grandfather built in 1880---drop by if you can, it's the white house on the right just past the city limit sign on Hwy. 21 East. From David: I'm married to LaWanna Easley (Class of '69) and we have three children, great kids: Geoffrey, in Durham, N.C.; Audra, in McKinney, TX; and Madison, graduating next Spring from SIU in Carbondale, IL. We also have two precious grandchildren. |

State/Prov.: WA Occupation: Library Administrator Marital Status: Married From Nancy: After NHS, I studied Poltiical Science and English at SFA, assuming I'd teach school; but student teaching brought the dramatic realization that I would never be a good teacher! I moved to Dallas; got married; wanted to go to law school but couldn't afford SMU. A friend told me we could get Master's degrees in Library Science in one year and that there were jobs to be had that paid pretty well. So I ditched the "wonderful" job I had at a big insurance company--by the way, I worked in statistics and as some of you might recall, math was NEVER my long suit. Anyway, I got the degree; worked in a theological library then moved to public libraries and became the library director in Mesquite, Tx. which I did for 16 years (way too long!) I had no children and gave up my first marriage in the mid-80's and rediscovered having fun in my life with my new partner Mickey Day. (Also about that time I reconnected with Lennijo who was also in Dallas and got her interested in libraries.) In 1990 Mickey and I moved to Seattle --just for the change. We bought a small farm about 30 miles from Seattle; worked fulltime jobs; commuted to Seattle daily; and raised thoroughbred horses for sale (never any profit invovled --only money out the door-- and, no, I don't ride but I can muck a stall and birth a foal). My life got too stressed: my mother lived with us (an entire book unto itself!) and my job managing 20 libraries and 400 employees was demanding, all coupled with the work fo the horses. To relieve the stress, we sold the farm; made different arrangements for my mother; and I took a job as library director for the City of Irving, Tx. and we moved back to Dallas in 1999. After three years, we remembered why we left Dallas in the first place: too hot, too buggy; too much concrete; and too far away from a mountain. At this time I was asked to return to my former job that had grown and changed to manage 43 libraries and nearly 900 employees. We returned to our little town out fo Seattle and now live on five acres with 2 dogs and 5 cats (no horses!) and a view of Mount Ranier. All the homeless animals know where to find me and since I never had 2-legged children, I've made a life of advocating for animals and supporting animal rights causes. Nacogdoches and all of you are cherished connections and I love reading about all of you. |

City: Lufkin
State/Prov.: TX Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 2 Grandchildren: 2 What have you been doing for 40 years?: As many of you remember, I moved to San Augustine in my junior year and did not get to graduate with all my friends. For this reason, I am so excited about the reunion coming up in October. I can't believe it has been over 40 years since I saw many of you, but it just seems like yesterday. I have been married to Leo Sullivan for the last 12 years. I have two beautiful daughters and two wonderful grandchildren. My oldest daughter, Beverly will be 39 this month. She doesn't work although she does a lot of volunteer work. She is on the board at the Lufkin Zoo and she travels a lot as she works to educate people about breast cancer. Her husband owns Slaughter & Son Paint in Lufkin. My second daughter, Tricia is married to Brian Lair. Tricia works for Dr. Roche, DDS. Her husband Brian is in loss prevention for Brookshire Bros. They have the kids. Logan will be 10 in August and Lauren is 3. Logan is our baseball player, and he is on a tournament team. We travel a lot with him as he has a game out of town almost every weekend. I have really worked for the same business since 1979. I worked for Temple Associates in Diboll for 16 years, they bought a powerline company out of Houston years ago. When Temple Associates sold out, I worked for our powerline division, Universal Electric. When Universal Electric sold to Red Simipson out of Alexandria, La., they closed the office in Diboll but left the mechanic shop open. I went to work in the shop doing invoicing and buying parts. We moved the shop to Lufkin and in 2005 Red Simpson sold out to Pike Electric out of Mt. Airy, NC. Where I am today. |

Birthday: November 15, 1948
City: Dallas State/Prov.: TX Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 2 What have you been doing for 40 years?: After SFA, I married the lovely and talented Judy Redfearn, the auto parts store heiress from Mt. Pleasant. She has continued to put up with me for the entire 37 years, holding onto the faint glimmer of hope that she can still change me, or that I "might make something of myself someday." We have two incredibly wonderful and spoiled daughters. Sheaffer, 31, is a Speech Language Pathologist living in McKinney with her high school sweetheart and hubby, Chris, and our new grandson, Carter. Conner, 23, is loving her first grown up job in Chicago as a brand rep for Fossil Corporation. Our headstrong child, she never met a handbag or pair of heels that she couldn't fit onto a charge card. I own a nice little insurance agency in Dallas. My current interests include falling asleep in front of the TV, not missing any meals, and sitting on the back porch. At all costs, I avoid tight fitting clothing. Life is good. I wake up grateful every day. |
