What have you been doing for 40 years?:
Benny and I graduated from A&M in May of 1971 and I have been in Bryan/College Station since 1973, mostly in the real estate business.I met my wife, Terry, while she was a student at A&M and we were married one week after she graduated in 1978.She grew up in Lufkin. I was the NorthAmerican Van Lines agent for 16 years also. What I do now is mostly residential and commercial land development while my Terry works at the University. Both children, Jason and Darby, graduated from A&M. Jason (28 and married) works for an investment bank in Dallas, While Darby (26 and married) owns 2 SportClips franchises in the northwest Denver area. No Grandchildren. My brother's (Jerry) oldest daughter is getting married in College Station at 3pm the same day of the reunion. I think we will either come over Friday night or after the wedding on Sat. Since it takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive, we will have to leave soon after the wedding to get there at the beginning. I will let you know when we get closer.

From Wendy:

After graduating from N.H.S., I attended S.F.A. and married my sweetheart of 5 years.
We moved to Lubbock for Thad to attend law school and I finished my degree in education at Texas Tech.  Our daughter, Kelly, was born in El Paso in 1973 and we moved back to Nacogdoches in 1974.  Thad is an attorney with Stripling, Pederson and Floyd  and has practiced law, specializing in transactional law, for almost 35 years.  Our son, Ben, was born in Nacogdoches in 1979 and is in school in Canada to become an adventure guide.  He definitely walks to a different drummer, but one I approve of.  Kelly lives in my mothers house on Bailey Street and works for Pineywoods Health / Education Center.  She has a degree from T.C.U. in Ft Worth and loves living in Nac.
I am teaching school at Nettie Marshall Elem.   I am a math title teacher and work with students who struggle in math.  It has been  both rewarding and difficult.  I started teaching when I was 41 so I have a few more years before retirement.
I feel very blessed to get to live in Nacogdoches.  I love the small town, university, roots of it all.  Peggy and Leonette have worked so hard on this reunion, I hope you all come and enjoy the fruits of their efforts.  I would love to see everyone.

What have you been doing for 40 years?:
Right out of HS I was drafted by the Chicago Bears as a linebacker. Led the NFL in tackles my rookie year! Not bad for someone 6'2" and 120Lbs! Actually, I joined the Navy in early '68 and spent my entire enlistment stationed in Pearl Harbor(hey, somebody had to do it). Got out of the Navy and enrolled at SFA and got a BA in sociology. By this time, I had married Sandy Cooper (Class of '71).We had our 34th anniv. in May. After SFA, I decided to put my degree to work so I went to work in the oilfield.(you're right, they don't match). After spending a number of years working offshore for Otis Engineering, I got transferred to Longview ('86). About this time the bottom fell out of the oil business. Got out of it and worked for 9 yrs for a plastics firm in Kilgore. In '96 I got in the trucking business and have been driving the big rigs since. 4 yrs ago, I gave up the long haul loads and have been working local. Sandy and I have 2 sons. Marcus, 26, who works in the oil patch. Hunter,23, who is in his 5th year of a 5 yr enlistment in the Navy. Our 2 granddaughters, Aby(4)and Zuri(3), are Marcus's children. Sandy is a RN and has been working at Good Shepherd here in L'view for over 20yrs. She is an intensive care charge nurse. We feel very blessed that we have made our home on beautiful Lake Cherokee for the last 21yrs. I have done plenty of stupid things in my life and have hurt a number of people close to me. Certainly, I did not set a good example for my 2 sons as they grew up. The most important thing that has ever happened to me took place on Jan. 5,2005. At that time, I admitted my sins to Jesus Christ and humbly asked for His forgiveness. I then asked Him to please come into my heart and deliver me from my sinful nature. He did. I have been clean and sober for over 2yrs,I am one of the directors of a Celebrate Recovery group in my Church, I teach the Men's Sunday School class, I play harmonica in our Church Praise band and also in a busy Southern Gospel group. But, above all, I Love the Lord with all my heart, and I thank Him daily for his Blessing of Salvation! Sandy has been my inspiration thru all of this, her Faith is like a rock. I am very much looking forward to this reunion, and getting to see all of you. Maybe, if I bribe them enough, the Guvnors will let an old harmonica player sit in on a couple of tunes!

From Lennijo:
Greetings, fellow Dragons!  As you can see, I too am forty years older.  But how did that happen?  1967 is still a very vivid memory!

However, it had to be forty years for so much to have happened in my life:

30 years married (anybody remember that math teacher scandal?)

10 years not married (but if you didn't meet my partner Gary Duke in 2002, remind me when we're there in October)

4 children (all so very above average, and out saving the world from Boston to San Francisco)

0 grandchildren (someday maybe)

34 years in Dallas (I've actually learned to love big cities)

2 college degrees (and I still love going to school)

1 library career (all thanks to Nancy Price for showing me the right vocation!  I'm the director of the library at Richland, a big community college.)

10 or 15 years to retirement, at least (how can anybody afford it?)

1 surprise "relation" (who knew Jimmy Daniels would turn out to be part of my family?)

1 surprise relationship (who knew Homer's wife's sister would be one of my best friends?)

1 extra-special friend (here's to Leonette for getting me to write this, and for getting this reunion to happen!  Our first grade year at Nettie Marshall was way back in 1955, but I could not have made a better friend there.)

36 days til October 12 and I'm hoping to see each and every one of you at the party!

What have you been doing for 40 years?:
After graduation, I went to SFA, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Ed. I moved to Dallas, worked in several great jobs, taught school for one year and retired from that for the first time, and married and divorced. After Dallas, I moved to Houston, then Livingston. I managed the marina at the state park, then tried teaching again in Goodrich. I met and married my husband, Mike Jacobs, and began my second life as a coach's wife, mother, and teacher. Mike had Amy, 32, and Jack, 31. We have Joy, 21, and John, 18. All are wonderful kids. Jack and Somer have the 3 adorable girls. Being grandparents is amazing. Mike and I have both retired from teaching and live in the woods outside Moscow. Jack and Somer and the girls live closeby. Joy and John are in Nac going to college. Life is great! Can't wait to see all of you soon. I'm really enjoying the website; thanks to all on the committee.

What have you been doing for 40 years?:
I am a CPA and have been retired from Commercial Bank in Nacogdoches for almost three years. I did things a little backwards, I had my children before I finished college, but finally graduated from the University of Houston in 1981 with an accounting degree. At times it was a difficult task to juggle school and a family, but everything has turned out great. I have been married three times. I was first married to Frank Leonard, which ended in divorce after 15 years; my second husband, Doug Cothren, died in an industrial accident after 7 years of married. For the last 12 years, I have been happily married to Tony Jasso. My children are: Gina, 39, who is married to Eric Carver; they have two children Katie, 9 and Nathan, 5. Gina teaches Technology at Christ Episcopal School and is the graphic designer of the Journey Magazine. My son Tim, 34, is married to Carrie Commander (Anne French Commander's daughter). They have two boys, Evan, 6, and Grant, 3. Tim is a vice-president for Commercial Bank. Anne and I see each other frequently since we share the job of grandmother to the two boys. In my spare time, when I am not working on this reunion, I volunteer on various community boards. Currently, I am the president of the NHS Alumni Association. I am very fortunate that all my children and grandchildren live in Nacogdoches, so I get to babysit quite often. We always have lots of fun. Life has been great, althought like many of you, I have seen much tragedy. Now I am looking forward to my golden years.
From Peggy:
When I retired, I had more time to devote to my life long hobby - genealogy.  My goal is to tie the original Spanish settlers of Nacogdoches to their heirs of today.  I have a data base of about 10,000 people in Family Tree Maker, and the number continues to grow.  With this data, I am able to put together family history books on various old name families.  It is great fun and keeps me busy.  I am also collecting biological information on WWII veterans, deceased and still alive.  Both of these hobbies have been put on the back burner while working on our reunion.  But what fun I have had --- I am looking forward to seeing you all soon!
