Phillip D. Morgan
Phillip D. Morgan, 58, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1948, in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Thomas J. and Margarette Spell Morgan.
Mr. Morgan graduated from Nacogdoches (Texas) High School in 1967 and later attended culinary (chef) school in Colorado Springs, Colo., and seminary school in Colorado.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg where he ministered to the homeless.
He is survived by a son, Keith Pegues, Irving, Texas; his father, Thomas J. Morgan, Higginsville; and two sisters, Louan Robbins, Higginsville, and Gwen Blackwell, Beaumont, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg, with Mr. Ben Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
Note: Phillip's sister Louan noted that Phillip lived among and worked with homeless people in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado; and during his last year, he worked in a homeless ministry called LifeBuilders at the First Baptist Church in Warrensburg, MO. She said Phillip was "not necessarily proud of his past but was confident of his future", and because of his ministries, there are a number of people in Warrensburg and elsewhere who are living healing lives thanks to her brother Phillip. " His faith in God is our consolation but I did lose one of my best friends that day." Thank you, Louan, for your inspiring words about your brother and our friend, Phillip. He will be missed

Funeral service for James Christie “Chris” Odom, Jr., 57, of the Block Creek Ranch in Comfort, formerly of Nacogdoches, were held Monday, Nov. 6, at Cason Monk-Metcalf
Sunset Chapel with the Rev. Rick Anderson of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Chris Odom was born Jan. 27, 1949 in Shreveport, La. to James Christie Odom, Sr. and Marilyn McKaskle Odom and passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 in Comfort.
He was a member of the Methodist church and the Purebred Dexter Cattleman Association of North America.
Surviving Chris is his mother, Marilyn Odom of Nacogdoches; a sister, Diane Odom Pawlik and husband Ron of Bellaire; nephews, James Pawlik of Bellaire and Edward Pawlik of Dallas; and great-nephew, Zachary Pawlik of Dallas. He is also survived by his companion of many years, Dr. Mickey Bush of Block Creek Ranch in Comfort.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Odom, Sr. on Dec. 23, 1963.

Alan Still
Memorial services for Alan Still, 56, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches with the Reverend Dan Danheim officiating.
Mr. Still passed away Friday, August 12, 2005, at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Born February 18, 1949, in Nacogdoches, Alan was the son of John Charles (Buddy) Still and the late Margaret Emily Still. He was co-owner of Fish and Still Equipment Company of Nacogdoches, Henderson, and Crockett.
Alan was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Nacogdoches Chapter of Safari Club International. He was an avid sportsman, well-respected businessman and devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Cox Still of Nacogdoches; son, Jonathan Alan Still of Dallas; and daughter, Allison Leigh Potgieter and husband, Lammie, of Pongola, South Africa. Also, surviving are his father, Buddy Still and wife, Mary Jane STILL; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Linda Still, Frank and Tricia Still, Joe and Jill Still of Nacogdoches, and Jim and Debbie Still of Houston, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the Still family is asking that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches.

Hershel Raymond Ward, 56, of Nacogdoches passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday March 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Eastside United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Ennis L. Fuller of Eastside United Pentecostal Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. W.E. Willoughby of Greater Faith Pentecostal Church and the Rev. Gary Ward. Music will be provided by nephew Justin Ward. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Ward was born June 9, 1948, to John B. Ward and Elsie Lee Ward in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was a lifetime resident of Nacogdoches and married to Frances Simmons on January 15, 1971. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and served as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He retired from NIBCO in Nacogdoches, Texas, after 35 years of service. Raymond was hard-working and dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family and his keen sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Ward of Nacogdoches, Texas; parents, John and Elsie Ward of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughters, Carrie Fuller and husband, Lyn, of Nacogdoches, Texas and Deborah Long and husband, Kirk, of Dallas, Texas; son, Tim Ward of San Marcos, Texas; brothers, Nathan Ward and wife, Connie, of Tyler, Texas, Dwayne Ward and wife, Sandy, of Wilson, North Carolina, Randy Ward of Nacogdoches, Texas and Gary Ward and wife, Charlene, of Diboll, Texas; two precious grandchildren which he adored, Hannah and Trent Fuller of Nacogdoches, Texas; sisters-in-law, Mary Quinn and husband, Shorty, of Nacogdoches, Texas; and Ruth Rice and husband, Jerry, of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers-in-law, James Simmons of Nacogdoches, Texas, Jack Simmons of Tennessee and Charles Simmons and wife, Carolyn, of Garland, Texas; and sister-in-law, Karen Simmons of Canton, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by brother, Melvin Ward, and sister-in-law, Glenda Ward.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Quinn, David Quinn, Kevin Ward, Jerry Rice Jr., John Rice and Brad Burgess. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Quinn and Terry Ray.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the Eastside United Pentecostal Church, 3801 Center Highway.

Bernard John DeWitt III
Bernard John DeWitt III, 54, Stillwater, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, in Stillwater.
Services will be held in Nacogdoches, Texas, in Laird-McGill Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Gary Hill presiding.
He was born in Zeeland, Mich., Oct. 22, 1949, to Bernard John DeWitt Jr., and Lois (Willard) DeWitt.
He attended Nacogdoches High School graduating in 1967, lettering in football, basketball and track. He continued his education on a football scholarship at Texas A & M in addition to serving in the Corps of Cadets. He was later released from military service with a medical honorable discharge as a 2nd Lieutenant. He returned to Texas A & M and received a PhD in food science.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Christina DeWitt; mother, Lois Guthrie and husband, Bennett M. Guthrie; two brothers, Bob and Jane DeWitt and Bill and Beverly DeWitt; three sisters, Peggy and John Taylor, Nancy DeWitt and Joe Hamel and Elsa and Bill Sherrod; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mike Green, 53, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, Texas, Mickey Lyles officated. Burial was in Gober Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Tribble, Ricky Chapman, Gibbs Chapman, Nick Vasquez, Terry Evans, Joe Salazar, and Jerry Don Cheshier. Honorary pallbearers were Dwayne Johnson, Alex Rodriguez and Bradley Cheshier.
Mr. Green passed away Jan. 23, 2003, in a community hospice.
He was born July 29, 1949, in Bonham to James H. and Betty June Gibbs Green. He married Tina Rodriguez Green, Aug. 12, 1977 in Cleburne.
He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Green was a mechanic for cowboy coring.
Survivors are wife, Tina Green of Joshua, Texas; daughter Dana Green of Bonham, Texas; sons, Michael Green of Livingston, Texas, Mark Green and wife Kristie of Etoile, Texas and Omar Vasquez of Cumberland, MA; mother, Betty June Green of Bonham, Texas; brother, Jim Green of Little Rock, Ark; sister, Nancy Cheshier of Yuba, Okla; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was 7-8 p.m. Friday night at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home, Bonham, Texas.

Graveside service for Lathon Prentice Faulkner, 52, of Huntington, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Cemetery with the Rev. Garrel Faulkner officiating. Faulkner died March 13, 2001 in Huntington. Born August 14, 1948, in Nacogdoches, he was the son of Emma Lee Brandon and Morris Faulkner. He was a salesman in the tire industry and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Emma Lee Faulkner of Nacogdoches; daughters, Renea McDaniel and Robyn Mason, both of Nacogdodhes and Raquel Pledger of Tenaha; brothers, Larry Faulkner, and Ashley Faulkner, both of Nacogdoches; sisters, Darla Davis of Katy and Doretha Chandler of Cushing, and six grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Gary Bruce Hudman, age 49, of Nacogdoches, TX will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Price and Dr. James Shine officiating. Burial will follow in the Swift Cemetery.
Mr. Hudman died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, in an auto accident near Tyler, Texas.
Mr. Hudman was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, April 2, 1949, and was the son of Jessie Ercille Fulmer and John Leamon Hudman. He married Judi Weatherly Hudman on June 6, 1970, and she survives him.
Mr. Hudman was co-owner of Soil Fertility of Texas, Vice President and General Manager; and a Deacon of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church. He was also Past Master and Treasurer of Swift Masonic Lodge No. 678, President of Swift Water System, and director of Swift Community Center.
Survivors include his wife, Judi Hudman; father, John Leamon Hudman; daughter and son-in-law, Holli and Mark Zawlocki; and granddaughter, Julea Zawlocki.
Pallbearers will be David Miller, George Wages, Danny Shull, Dean Templeton, Gus Ash, Aaron Hampton, and Malcom McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will b e the employees of Soil Fertility of Texas, his Masonic Brothers, his Nephews, Deacons of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, and the Farm Bureau.
Note: Gary's mother, Ercille Fulmer Hudman was killed in the same automobile accident.

Funeral for Michael Lynn Burke, 48, of Center will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mangam Chapel, Center, with Dr. Wesley Wellborn officiating and burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Burk died April 11, 1998 in Center. He was born April 21, 1949.
Surviving are wife, Lizann Hutcherson Burke, and son C. J. Goings, of Center, son, Andrew Francis of Rusk; daughter, April Burke of Tyler, mother, Thelma Burke, brother, Kenneth Glenn Burke, and sister, Nedra Pebsworth, of Nacogdoches, and sister Debra Stockton of Dallas. His father, Ben Burke, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Note: Mike was killed in a fiery one-vehicle crash on FM2026 in Shelby County north of Center. Mike's sister, Nedra, says that Mike was living in Center and working with the youth baseball association there when he was killed and that the funeral home there said his funeral was the largest one ever in their facility. Nedra adds that " He is missed so much and his death is still a mystery after all these years. "

Funeral services for Dennis L. Duke, 41, of New York, will be held Friday, July 5, at 11 a.m. in Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Park.
Officiating will be Dr. Allen Reed, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Dr. Mark Price, pastor of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Duke died July 2, 1991, at his parents' home.
Born Aug. 11, 1949 in Nacogdoches, Texas, he was the son of William B. and Ruby Duke who survive him. He was a graduate of Nacogdoches High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He directed the Great American Quilt Festival in New York City in 1986 whick attracted more than 25,000 persons daily, and he co-authored a book, "America's Glorious Quilts," presently in its fourth printing. He worked in Washington, D.C., during the Reagan presidency.
Pallbearers will be Truman Watkins, Jack Littlefield, Bill Pillsbury, Jack McMury, Larry Page, Thomas Duke, James McMury and Bill Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James (Red) Duke, Dr. Phillip Johnson, Dr. Craig Keyes, James Martin, John McGee, Mark Hollup, Larry Seagroves and Charles (Chuck) Falles.
Music will be directed by David Campbell.
Memorials may be gifts to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral for Jerry Anthony Cortines, 41, of Route 3, Box 3360, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gavin Vaverek, associate pastor, officiating.
Rosary will be said Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will be at Moral Cemetery.
Cortines died Monday, January 14, 1991 in Nacogdoches.
Born Feb. 24, 1949, in Nacogdoches, he was shipping and receiving clerk with Lufkin Industries, a lifetime resident of Nacogdoches, and a Catholic.
Surviving are mother, Mrs. Mary Lee Montes, son, John Douglas Cortines; grandmother, Mrs. Laney McClain; and sister, Ms. Linda Cortines, all of Nacogdoches. His father, John Cortines, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Cloudy, Bill Acosta, Frank Montes, Jerry Vann, Bennett Montes, Junior Poskey, Gary Montes; and David Clifton.

Rites Held for Youth...
Funeral services for SP/4 Samuel R. Lynch, 21, killed in Vietnam Dec. 17, were held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Spring Hill Baptist Church in Nacogdoches County with interment in the White Rock Cemetery in Shelby County.
Officiating were the Rev. R. G. Gray pastor of the Spring Hill Baptist Church, and the Rev. J.T. Johnson pastor of the Huntington Baptist Church.
The young man’s local address was Route 1, Box 266, which is in the Spring Hill Community and he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Lynch Jr. of Nacogdoches, his mother being the former Ozeda Pate.
Born May 26, 1949, in Nacogdoches, he went into service May 28, 1969 and at the time of his death was with the 57th I.P.S.D., 198th American Division.
Survivors in addition to his parents are his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mr. J.R. Lynch Sr. of White Rock, and his maternal grandmother, Mr. Allie Pate of Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers were military personnel.
Cason Monk Funeral Home directed local arrangements.
Note: Sammy was a dog handler in Vietnam. He and his dog were searching a rice pattie, when his dog failed to detect a land mine. He and five other soldiers were killed when the land mine exploded.

Funeral services for James Francis Burt, 21, of Appleby will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Appleby Church of Christ with interment in the Bethel Cemetery at Appleby.
Officiating will be J.R. Perkins of Marshall, minister for the Church of Christ.
The young man became Nacogdoches County’s fourteenth traffic fatality when he died Sunday at 11:30 p.m. in Hermann Hospital in Houston from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash at 3:30 a.m. Sunday .4 miles north of the Nacogdoches City limits on U.S. 59.
Born Jan. 8, 1949, in Nacogdoches County, James had lived here all his life. He was the son of N.F. (Red) and Virginia Till Burt, and an employee of International Paper Company, Mr. Burt operates a store at Appleby.
Survivors in addition to his parents are a sister, Rohonda Gale Burt of Appleby; paternal grandparents, Ira Burt and Mr. Josie Allen of Houston; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Weatherly of Appleby.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth and Don Boyette, Bill Peace, Billy G. Shumate, Terry Stevens, and Dale Turner.
James H. Lunsford will direct the song service.
Oakley Metcalf Funeral Home will direct arrangements.

Funeral services for Horace Roberdeau Mast, 21, of 822 Logansport were held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church with interment in Sunset Memorial Park.
Officiating were the Rev. Mike Macey, rector of Christ Episcopal Church and Bishop Scott Field Bailey of Houston, a former rector of Christ Church and at present Bishop Co-adjutor for the Diocese of Texas of the Episcopal Church.
Horace died Tuesday night from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash.
Born April 25, 1949, in Nacogdoches, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Mast Jr. and had lived in Nacogdoches all his life. He was a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Survivors in addition to his parents are his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Mast Sr. of Nacogdoches; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Roberdeau of Austin; two brothers, Adlai Travis Mast and John C. Mast of Nacogdoches; and a sister, Miss Patricia Lee Mast of Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers were Jim Kingham, Chris Odom, Joey Williams, Ed Cochran, Alan Still, Joel Parker, Bill Pollock, Roy Ed Price, Benny DeWitt, and Phil Broxon.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Sgt. William Preston Armstrong KILLED IN VIETNAM
Sniper Kills Local Youth on Birthday…….
Funeral services for Sgt. William Preston Armstrong, 19, of 603 Cox were pending Monday in Nacogdoches, to be directed by Cason Monk Funeral Home.
Sgt. Armstrong was killed in Vietnam by sniper fire Aug. 1, which was his birthday.
Born August 1, 1949, in Nacogdoches, the young man attended Jacksonville High School.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Armstrong of Nacogdoches, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Armstrong of Nacogdoches; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Wisener of Stamford; a sister, Mrs. Johnny Hunt of Lafayette, La; and four brothers, Jerry Wayne, Johnny Mack, Charles Robert, and Don Wayne Armstrong, all of Nacogdoches.
Note: Sgt. Armstrong was with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was the youngest person ever to achieve the rank of Sergeant.
He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Expert Badge with machine gun bar, and the Sharpshooter Badge with automatic rifle BAR.
